SEVERE BURNS.

OLD MAN’S PAINFUL ORDEAT, AT TE OBE QBE. ACCIDENTAL FALL INTO. FIRE. Severe burns were received by an cld man named. Bartholomew Culloty, of To Ore Ore, who accidentally fell into a fire in his whare the other day. It appears that he was sitting in front fit the fireplace when his chair collapsed and he fell into the fire. Mr. Culloty managed to extricate himself and extinguished the flames on his coat by pouring a couple of buckets of water on to the floor of the whare and rolling in it. The accident is reported to have happened at about 12.30 and Mr. Culloty’s plight was not noticed until about 5 o’clock when Mr. Elers, a neighbour, happened to call on him. He at onee rendered first-aid and summoned Dr. P. R. Cook, who, after attending to the unfortunate man, ordered his removal to the Masterton Hospital. Mr. Culloty is suffering from severe bum on the left arm and shoulder.
