DISTRICT NEWS.

MAURICEVILLE WEST. A most enjoyable social evening was held in the local Memorial Hall on 'Friday last. Much appreciated songs were given by Mrs Forsberg and Messrs R. Bishop; H. Mortensen and R. Watkins. The men’s dressmaking competition was won by Mr. D. Johansen, while another competition was won by Miss M. McGovern and Mr. G. Nielsen. After supper had been served dancing took place until an early hour in the morning, music being supplied by local 1 players. In spite of the rain the annual school picnic was held on Friday in the local hall and was enjoyed immensely by all the children. An euchre tournament’ and dance will be held in the Memorial hall next Saturday evening, February 27. Mrs J. A. Johnson, of Napier, is the guest of Mr. and Mrs P. E. Mortensen. Miss D. Palmer is making a holiday visit to relatives in Nelson.
