GENERAL ELECTION.

CANDIDATES FOR SOUTHERN SEATS. OTAGO CENTRAL AND CLUTHA. DUNEDIN, November 5. Mr. Charles Todd advised the Otago Executive of the Reform League by telegram from Wellington to-day that the newspapers had no authority for announcing his withdrawal as Reform candidate from the Otago Central contest. It is understood that Mr. Todd’s decision to contest the seat against the Coalition United candidate, Mr. W. A. Bodkin, M.P., is the result of an announcement that Mr. Peter McSkimming, who was selected as the United candidate for the Clutha seat before the coalition was arranged, will stand as an Independent Coalitionist against' the sitting Reform member, Mr. Fred Waite. Mr. James Taylor has definitely decided not to contest the Dunedin North seat.—(P.A.) OAMARU. A LABOUR ASPIRANT. OAMARU, November 5. The Oamaru branch of the Labour Party to-night selected Mr. Percival Malthus, of Hillgrove, farmer, to contest the Oamaru seat in the Labour interests. This is the first time that the constituency has been contested by the Labour Party.—(P.A.) MARSDEN. MR. W. JONES TO STAND. WHANGAREI, November 5. Mr. William Jones, who represented Marsden in the Reform interests in the 1925-28 Parliament and was defeated by Mr. A. J. Murdoch at the last election, has declared his intention to contest the seat as an Independent Reform Coalitionist.—(P.A.)
