CHARGES OF THEFT.
POSTAL OFFICIALS BEFORE COURT. NAME OF ONE SUPPRESSED. CHRISTCHURCH, September 1. James Thomas Toomey, a clerk in the Post Office, aged 35, was charged in the Magistrate's Court to-day with the theft of £34, the property of the Postmaster-General. Detective Sergeant Young said the accused had been employed as a teller in collection of toll accounts. There had been a manipulation of the accounts and £4OO had not been accounted for. Toomey was remanded till September 17. Bail of £2OO and one surety of £2OO was allowed.
A clerk whose name was suppressed was charged with stealing £5 tho property of the Postmaster-General. The accused was remanded. Bail of £lOO and one surety of £lOO was allowed.—(P.A.) '■ '
