DRASTIC DECREE.
EMERGENCY MEASURES IN GERMANY. ALL BANKS TO BE CLOSED FOR TWO DAYS. HITLER READY TO ASSUME POWER. United Press Association.—By Eleetrio Telegraph.—Copyright. (Received Tuesday, 7 p.m.) BERLIN, July 14. The Government has been authorised by a Presidential decree to order the closing on Tuesday and Wednesday of all banks, savings banks and credit institutions throughout Germany, except the Reichsbank. During the closing, Government representatives and the banks will take the necessary measures to provide on Thursday the funds necessary for the further transaction of business .and payment of salaries and wages. The Stock Exchange probably will remain closed until the week-end'. The announcement of the issue of the decree is accompanied by another reassuring manifesto, appealing to the nation to remain calm. The Nazis have sent a letter to the' President of the Reichstag demanding the summoning thereof in view of “the attempt by the French and English to rob Germany of the remnants of her sovereignty-” Herr Hitler, in a special interview, said: “I am prepared to assume power without delay. The situation has confirmed my fears and predictions of the Young Plan ending in disaster. There are. only two possibilities for the future—either our movement gains power over Bolshevism, or Bolshevism will turn Central Europe and possibly the world beyond into chaos. ’ ’ ASSURANCE OF SUPPORT. INTERNATIONAL BANK OFFERS AID., (Received Tuesday, 8.20. p.m.) BERLIN, July 13. A Basle message states that the council of the International Bank has sent a communique to the German Government declaring itself ready ,to collaborate with other banks with a view to financial action and that it is prepared to reinforce by all means at its disposal the action of the central banks. Meanwhile, the Council has authorised a renewal of participation by the bank m rediscount credits previously accorded to the Reichsbank. ANXIETY RELIEVED. A MOMENTOUS DECISION. Anxiety in the capitals of Europe, particularly Berlin, has been relieved news °f the momentous decision made Iby the Bank 'of International Settlements, which has, resulted in a wave of optimism and belief that Germany’s troubles within a few days will be over.
