OTTAWA, July 13. The Premier (Mr. B. B. Bennett) tabled the new Canadian-Austral-ian Trade Agreement in the House of Commons on Monday night. Mr Bennett announced that the great bulk of commodities exported from Canada was guaranteed a substantial preference in Australia and in return Canada will accord Australia its British preferential tariff and reduced rates on twenty-eight items of the Canadian tariff. “Throughout the negotiations which have now culminated in the conclusion of a trade agreement,” Mr. Bennett said, “we have sought to adhere to the principle of diverting to each other trade which at present is being done with countries outside the Empire. I sincerely hope and trust the agreement will bear the fruit which we so earnestly desire.” The Minister of Trade and/ Commerce (Mr. Stevens) commenting on the treaty, said: “The whole of Canada will share in the benefit. The Pacific Coast will get a special advantage in the lumber, paper and fish trade under a blanket concession of the British preferential tariff. Manufacturers of miscellaneous goods all over Canada will benefit. ’ ’ AUSTRALIAN GAINS. BIG CONCESSION ON BUTTER. (Received This Day, 0.5 a.m.) CANBERRA, July 14. Mr. Maloney, Minister of Markets, tabled the Reciprocal Trade Treaty between Canada and Australia. Certain Australian goods are to be admitted to Canada at- rates lower than those of the British .preferential rates, covering fresh and canned meats, eggs, dairy produce, hops, rice, fruits' and wines. Australian butter is to be admitted to Canada at a duty 14s a cwt. lower than that on New Zealand butter.
