COMMENCING TO-MORROW.

■ NORMA TALMADGE IN “NEW YORK LIGHTS.” Norma Talmadge has charmed legions of picture patrons as an actress on the silent screen. She makes her debut in all-talking pictures in “New York Nights” which is to be shown for the first time at the Regent Theatre to-morrow evening. Advice notices declare that “New York Nights” is the best all-talking picture mirroring the gay night life of Br-ad-way. It is described as an unusual combination of understandable comedymelodrama with sensible and timely interpolations of music and humorous touches that fit smoothly into the story. Combining fun and drama, the pi -ure is a lively and entertaining study of the world of -song writers and chorus girls. It is the story of a chorus girl, Jill (Miss Talmadge) married to a lazy and worthless song writer who contrives to write one successful song and sells l it for a drink ,of gin. A “racketeer” covets Jill and |/rts unsuccessfully to rid her of Tier husband and the picture is well endowed w.th action. Miss Talmadge gives a performance which is said to mark her as an even better actress in talking pictures than on the silent screen. Strikingly effective work is done also by Gilbert Roland in the character of the indolent and generally inebriated, husband. There is a strong supporting cast. Patrons are advised to book at Clarke's, or by ringing Theatre, 'phone 2303.
