The President-elect, M. Doumer, took office at a simple ceremony at the Elysee, where the retiring President, M. Doumergue, awaited him. M. Doumer placed across his chest the broad red sash of the Grand Master of the Legion of Honour, which is the only outward sign of office borne by the President. M. Laval formally tendered the Government’s resignation and accepted a request to continue in office, thus inaugurating a second Laval Cabinet, which observers opinc will survive vicissitudes until the recess, thus ensuring stability until November.
