The arrangements for the ball, which will bo held in the Masterton Municipal Hall on Thursday, July I'6, are already well in hand. A custom which seems to be on the increase at dances held in Masterton is that of young men dancers standing c round a doorway or in the hall instead of dancing when there are plenty of partners available. This is due either to bashfulness or to the fact that they do not know the lady dancers. At the dance held in the Parish Hall on Saturday night Mr. B. Iveson, the M.C., said that there was such a bevy of charming young ladies present that there was absolutely no excuse for the young men to stand in the doorway and run the risk of catching a •told in the draught, or of “sittting out,” When they should be dancing. (The remarks bore good fruit-, and the men dancers saw to it that the ladies did not want for partners.
