POLITICAL COWARDICE.

BAVIN SEVERELY CRITICISES FEDERAL MINISTRY. FAILURE TO HONOUR PROMISE. BALANCING THE BUDGET. United Press Association. —By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. (Received This Day, 0.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, November 6. The ex-Premier, Mr. Bavin, has issued a statement severely criticising the Federal Ministry for failing to honour its promise given at the Premiers’ Conference in August last to balance the Budget, effect substantial economies and refrain from further taxation. He described it as the worst example of political cowardice. It amounted to repudiation, and Australia would be further discredited in the eyes of the world. He added that had it been thought that the Federal Ministry would not keep faith with the State Premiers and its own solemn undertaking, there would not have been the slightest chance of an agreement being arrived at last August.
