EXCHANGE RATES.

POSITION OF NEW ZEALAND AND AUSTRALIA. MR. FORBES MAKING INQUIRIES. (Received Sunday, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, September 26. Mr. Forbes has been discussing the question of New Zealand exchange rates, which are the same as Australian though New Zealand has no adverse balance of trade. He said the banks apparently found great difficulty in differentiating between the rates, owing to the close financial relations between New Zealand and Australia. Mr. Forbes states he conversed with both the Canadian Prime Minister and the Minister of Commerce regarding preference for New Zealand butter. He pointed out that New Zealand's concessions outbalanced the Canadian concessions upon the total inter-Dominion trade. Mr. Forbes assured Mr. Bennett that New Zealand did not desire a tariff war and it was agreed to continue the discussions in London.
