PRECAUTIONS ENFORCED. (By Telegraph?—“The Age” Special.) WELLINGTON, August 27. “The introduction of sound reproduction equipment has necessitated the enlargement of projection rooms in theatres and advantage has been taken of the opportunity given by these alterations,” states the Minister of Internal Affairs in a reply to the member for Timaru, “to require a considerably higher standard both of construction and fire prevention equipment. A regular inspection of theatres is carried out by trained officers and special inquiries are made into all fires. While it is recognised,” adds Mr. de la Perrelle, “that despite all precautions, film fires will occasionally occur, it has been demonstrated that with the safeguards now in force, these fires involve only small quantities of film and are invariably confined to the projection room.
