FEATHERSTON. (“The Age” Special.) The friends of Mrs. J. Tocker, South Featherston, will regret to learn that she had found it necessary to enter Dr. Sharpe's Hospital. Card Evening. St. John’s Ladies ’ Guild held another of its popular card evenings in the Parish Hall on Monday night. The prizes were won by the following:— Ladies, Mrs. Hoskings 1, Mrs. Worsley 2; men,, Mr. G. Walker 1, Mr. Musgrove 2. An enjoyable supper was served by the hostesses. Golf. The men of the Featherston Golf Club held an eclectic competition at Gumgrove on Saturday, with the following results:—W. Crawford 43, D. Ward 44, Dr. Sharpe 44, G. McPhee 44, H. McCarty 45, G. O’Neale 46, T. Hardie 46, Miniature Rifles. The following will represent the Featherston Miniature Rifle Club against Martinborough, on Thursday, for the Pragnell Shield: S. Barclay, K. MeKenzie, D. Benton, E. Viles, C. J. Nix; emergencies, Miss M. Habib, L. G. Benton, A. Viles.

PIRINOA. (“The Age” Special.) Miss Margaret Munro is spending the school holidays in Wellington. Mr. R. McDougall has returned from a short visit to Christchurch. After a week of beautiful weather, heavy rain set in on Sunday and continued all night and on Monday. Whitebait is being netted at the Ferry in fairly large hauls. A plain and fancy dress ball is to be held in the Memorial Hall early in September. Mrs. Seott was the guest of Mrs. T. Jennings for a few days. Mr. and Mrs. T. Atkinson were recent visitors to Wellington. Mr. G. Pearce, who has been visiting the South Island, has returned and has resumed his duties tft the local factory. The death occurred in Wellington recently of Carrie, sister of Mrs. Gordon Murray. The interment took place at Pukio. A Church of England service was held in the Hall on Sunday evening, the Rev. Kokiri, of Carterton, officiating. Among the many visitors who were present at the school concert on Thursday night were the Rev. and Mrs. Fleury, of Martinborough. It is reported that the road through the Tauanui Estate has hen taken over by the local authority. Mr Sunny Flutey underwent an operation in the Greytown Hospital recently. He is doing well. Mrs. D. J. Mslntosh, junr., who is in the Greytown Hospital, is showing much improvement. The infant child of Mrs. A. Flutey is in the Masterton Hospital.
