DEFENCE AMENDMENT BILL INTRODUCED. SUSPENSION OF COMPULSORY TRAINING. PROVISION FOR VOLUNTEERS. (By Telegraph.—“ The Age” Special.) WELLINGTON, August 13. The Defence (Temporary) Amendment Bill introduced by the Hon. J. G. Cobbe, Minister of Defence, is to Cease to have effect on August 1, 1931. It will suspend for that period the provisions of the Defence Act, 1909, relating to compulsory military training and make provision for recognition during the period of suspension of voluntary organisations, formed for the purposes of military training. While this Act is in force no person shall be obliged to undergo military training in the Senior Cadets or in the General Training Section or in the Territorial Force, but nothing in this sub-section shall prevent military training in any branch of the defence forces of any persons who voluntarily undertake to submit themselves to such training. The Governor-General may recognise the establishment, as part of the Defence Forces, of any voluntary organisation for military training and make regulations for the organisation, training, discipline and control of any such voluntary organisation or unit thereof.
