AMATEUR ATHLETICS.

CONFERENCE OF SUB-CENTRES. WAIRARAPA REMITS. At last night’s meeting of the Wairarapa Sub-Centre of the N.Z. A.A.A. the following remits, to be discussed at a conference of subcentres to be held at Palmerston North on Saturday next, were agreed upon:— That the Wellington Centre be urged to deal directly with Subcentres regarding overseas and visiting athletes, no dealing with clubs in above matters to be permitted. That in future, in championship meetings each club be allowed to nominate three starters only in each event. That in championship meetings only six cycle riders be allowed to start in each heat and that no pace makers be allowed; the above to be embodied in cycling rules. That a conference of delegates be held in the evening after the Country Clubs Championship meeting, to consider matters appertaining to the promotion of amateur athletics in general. That applications for the control of Country Club Championships be forwarded to the Wellington Centre not later than October 31 in each year, and that the date be arranged by the Wellington Centre and the club- concerned. That where a duplication of competitors’ numbers is necessary that they be made on a different coloured background, as for instance, first 1 to 500 be black background with white numbers, second 1 to 500 be white background and black numbers, etc., and special care be taken that the colours are made of such material that will not run and cause obliteration. That, the Wellington Centre make an effort to arrange with the N.Z.A.A.A. a new system of dealing with affiliation fees and contributions collected by the sub-centres, which will leave the sub-centres a reasonable margin of finance to carry on with. The present arrangements leave sub-eentres practically as collectors for the N.Z.A.A.A. with nothing on which to carry out the work entailed; as the sub-centres have to do the spade work which is so necessary to keep the N.Z.A.A.A. -in existence. That is be a recommendation that this conference be held annually, the location to be decided at the preceding conference-.
