In his address, Mr. Wallace gave an interesting account of the early history v and development of calculating f machines. He went on to describe all 1 the mtrjeate calculations that could be B made on these useful modern aids of accounting and illustrated these ■ methods on several models of machines, i In the use of the machines, he said 3 absolute accuracy eould be attained 3 a ,, Bn 7 error due to the human factor 3 could be traced easily at the end of 9 each day instead of waiting to the end Of the month and having to trace through the whole month’s work to find i out where the error had occurred. By a the use of the machines, every account B was balanced on the statements as they r were made out as well as in the ledger, j Mr. Wallace was accorded a very hearty vote of thanks for his interestmg and informative address and demonstration and for the time and - trouble he had taken in bringing his machines to Masterton in order to t make the members of the society aci quamted with the latest mechanical c aids to accounting.
