KINGSFORD SMITH.
OPERATION FOR APPENDICITIS. ORDERED LONG REST. AMSTERDAM, August 4. Wing-Commander Kingsford Smith entered hospital at Middleburg suffering from pains in the back. The doctors report there is no danger, but that the airman needs absolute rest after the strain of many recent receptions. Later. Dr. Voss successfully operated on Kingsford Smith for appendicitis. He advised a long rest to ensure complete recovery from the strain of the past two years. This postpones the idea of a solo flight to Australia.
