PIRINOA GOLF CLUB.
A. WARBEN SENIOR CHAMPION. (“The Age” Special.) , Saturday was an ideal day for golf, the greens and fairways being in splendid order. As anticipated the contest for championship honours between A. Warren and D. Jones was an exceptionally close one. Although play was not as was generally expected, nevertheless there were occasions when both contestants produced excellent golf. At the end of the first round Jones was one up, and. Warren, who was not showing that form which usually characterises his play, settled down to wipe out the deficit. At the thirteenth, Warren was 2 up, and at the fifteenth had increased his lead to 3 up. Jones, by brilliant play, won the sixteenth in four and another at the seventeenth made him dormy one. Both got good shots away over the woolshed. The hole was halved in four, thus leaving Warren winner by 1 up, and champion of the club for 1930. The game was keenly contested and the winner was the recipient of congratulations from members. The runner-up also came in for congratulations. The final round for the William Hume Memorial trophy was played on Saturday and resulted 'in a tie between D. Jones and B. McMaster. In the play-off, D. Jones won. As was expected, the final of the Tuhitarata Cup between Miss Dawson and Mrs. Carter, was closely contested. Inc issue was in doubt right to the last hole, Miss Dawson winning by 2 up. The winner, who played steady and consistent golf, fully deserved her win and both payers were heartily conffratulated. Last Saturday’s play concluded the competition matches and the final day is to be held at a later date. Mr. A. Warren, the local club champion, leaves for the Hutt this week where he will take part in the tournanient at the week-end.
