WEATHER REPORTS.

Masterton: Miss R. Robinson reported at 9 a.m. yesterday: Barograph, 29.70; shade temperature, maximum 47.4, minimum 42.2; terrestrial, 34.6; rain, 11 points; no sunshine. The total rainfall for the month of July was 4.29 inches, the highest for July since 1927; greatest fall for 24 hours was 93 pts. on the 28th. The average for the last seven months is 2.69 inches. The total sunshine for July was 113 hours 54 min., the highest for July since 1926. The greatest burn for 24 hours was 71 hours on the 14th. The average for the last seven months is 177 hours 12 minutes. The total milage of wind was 1935 miles with the highest run for 24 hours on the 29th of 328 miles. There were 4 clear days, 12 overcast days and 25 frosts, the highest of 14 degrees, being registered on 25th. The prevailing Wind was south-west.

The Government Meteorologist (Dr. E. Kidson) reported at 4 pan. yesterday:—Weather report and forecast: General situation, a deep and extensive cyclone is now centred near Farewell Spit. Barometers have risen in Eastern Australia. Forecast: Winds, strong to gale force, generally westerly, in the far north; elsewhere mainly northerly over the North Island, but backing to southerlies within about twelve to sixteen hours; easterly and veering to southerly over the South Island. Weather dull and misty, with general rain. Many heavy falls in the North. Island and parts of Nelson and Marlborough, with some flooding. Thunder in places and snow probable later. Temperatures becoming very cold. Sun rises, 7.9 a.m.; sun sets, 5.3 p.m. Lighting-up time: —5.29 p.m.
