INTER-COLLEGE RUGBY.
WAIRARAPA AND WELLINGTON COMPETE. A CONVINCING VICTORY. WELLINGTON, July 26. There was a very large attendance at the Wellington College grounds to-day, when the Wairarapa High School first fifteen met the Wellington College representatives in their annual match. Wellington, who had the sun and wind in their faces for the first spell, had all the best of the l opening exchanges, Carlson, Cromie, Reynolds, Sadler and Watt all showing up with, spirited dashes. Some fine clean passing pleased the crowd. Then, from near halfway, Watt came away with the ball and Middlebrook carried on to score PT’ L U fiW"SE® : "at' , 2s/." kirapa rorwaras tnen naa a turn, bustling the Wellington backs, Sadler, the half-back, who was playing a fine game, being instrumental in sending them back. However, the Black forwards, of whom Bird and McKenzie were playing a leading hand, were using their pace and feet to more advantage and took play right to the Blue line, where Sadler slipped over round the blind side. The kick missed. Wellington, 6/0. Play up to half-time, was more even; the Wairarapa forwards, with MeWhinne, Drummond and McLeod prominent, holding their heavier opponents. Wellington were getting the ball with monotonous regularity. In the second spell play was interesting, although not spectacular. The local backs always held the upper hand, and their weight and pace decided the issue. Watt scored two tries, one being converted by Coulson, and right on time Cromie scored a converted try, making the final score: Wellington, 19/0. — (P.A.)
