RIMUTAKA DEVIATION.
ARRANGEMENTS FOR DISTRICT DEPUTATION. FULL MUSTER IN PROSPECT. At the meeting of the council of the Wairarapa Progress League yesterday, the secretary reported that the Prime Minister had agreed to receive a deputation regarding the Rimutaka Deviation on Thursday next, at noon. Colonel T. W. McDonald, M.P., had advised that the deputation might have to be content to see the Prime Minister and such other Ministers as could be present. Mr. McLean said he had written to the Prime Minister urging that the other Ministers mentioned in the League's original letter—the Ministers of Public Works, Railways and Labour—should also meet the deputation, To this there had been no reply. It was agreed that the Eketahuna County Council should be asked to appoint another representative in the deputation in place of Mr. Carruthers, who was unable to go to Wellington. Mr. Free said it was very important to have a representative from Eketahuna since goods were being railed from that place to Wellington by way of Palmerston North. Practically all the local bodies on both sides of the Rimutaka would be represented on the deputation.
