MB. A. C. MAJOR RESIGNS BOARD CHAIRMANSHIP. MB. 8. W. SMITH APPOINTED. At the monthly meeting of the Board of Governors of the St. Matthew’s Collegiate School for Girls last evening, Mr. 8. W. Smith was appointed chairman in pla-ce of Mr. A. C. Major resigned. A hearty vote of thanks and appreciation was accorded Mr. Major for his services as chairman during the past eight years. General regret was expressed by all present that Mr. Major had found it necessary, on account of pressure of business and for health reasons, to resign the chairmanship. Mr. Smith said that Mr. Major had given time and service ungrudgingly to the school and had been a most successful chairman. He had been most tactful in his conduct of meetings and had done an immense amount of valuable work. Since becoming a member of the board, Mr. Major had also done a great deal of voluntary legal work. The board was deeply indebted to him. for all that he had done. Mr. Smith expressed a hope that in the near future Mr. Major would resume the position of chairman.
In acknowledging these and other appreciative references to his services, Mr. Major thanked members for the courtesy and loyalty they had always extended to him as chairman.
Mr. Major remains a member of the Board of Governors, which he joined in 1920, becoming chairman two years later. He became chairman at the time when the school moved from its old quarters to the present splendid site on which there has already *been carried out a considerable instalment of the building plan which ultimately will give the establishment a complete equipment of first? class modern buildings.
