The “Daily News” says the Church of England faces la momentous crisis in the Churdh Assembly on Wednesday, whep, arising from the House of Commons’ rejection of the Prayer Book,(the Archbishop of York proposes the appointment of a commission to enquire into the relations bf Church “and State and to determine how far the principle of the inalienable right of the Church to I formulate and express its faith in bhrist can be effectively applied in the present circumstances. The Bishop of Durham supports the Archbishop of York. 'Evangelical churchmen are opposing |hc motion, fearing that it will lead to “ slipperyslop” disestablishment. The Bishop of Durham, who is leading the disestablishment campaign within the Church, admits that the motion will disclose such a conflict between Church and Satte as must compel a drastic alteration of their present relations and may even require their legal separation.
