WINTER SHOW.

MEETING OF THE GENERAL COMMITTEE.

SUB-COMMITTEES SET UP.

A committee meeting of the Wairarapa Winter Show Association was held last night, the president (Mr. E. M. Hodder) presiding over an attendance of eight. Various matters in connection with this year’s Winter Show, to be held from June 2 to June 7 inclusive, were discussed in detail. The following sub-eommittees were set up:— Executive and Finance: Messrs E. M. Hodder, H. M. Boddington, J. H. Handyside, J. M. Janies and E. W. Payton. Space and Exhibits: Messrs G. Selby, F. W. Martin, C. R. Mabson, R. J. WBarton, A. E. Clemas. Advertising: Messrs J. Allan, G. Daulbney, W. G. Perry and James Watson. ♦ » Farmers’ Committee: Messrs James Watson, A. W. Falloon. J. H. Handyride, R. J. Barton, W. F. McLaren. It was decided that the space committee be asked to prepare ground plans of both buildings and submit them to f the next general meeting. The advis-_F'' ability of holding school children £ competitive classes was left in the hands of Mr. F. W. Martin, who is to bring down a report to the next general meeting. Letters were received from a number of Government Departments regarding the matter of eAiblts at thio year’s show. The chairman said that the majority of the replies were not favourable. The Departments, he added, stated in the main that there was no provision on their estimates for ex- ~ penditure on exhibits at shows. It was hoped, however, Mr. Hodder said, to obtain exhibits from at least four Departments. The matter of including a poultry section in this year’s Show was left in abeyance. The chairman said the matter had been discussed at the last meeting, when it was felt that it would be best left alone. Mr. F. W. Martin: “What are the reasons for omitting the poultry section if the space is available?” Mr. Hodder said it was a very difficult section to run. The space required was very large, the expenses heavy and a separate building was essential. He was of opinion that the general public did not appreciate a poultry show. On the motion of Mr. J. M. James it was decided to shelve the matter for the time being to enable further information to be obtained.
