SOUTH WAIRARAPA ITEMS.

PIRINOA. (“The Age” Special.) Mt. R. McDougall has returned from, the South Island. A gale of unusual violence was experienced in the district during the week-end. The death occurred in the Greytown Hospital last week of a well-known Native of this district in the person of Mr. Where Hutana. The funeral took place at Kohunui on Friday. The annual general meeting of the shareholders of the Pirinoa Co-opera-tive Dairy Company is to take place tomorrow. The Pirinoa Co-operative Dairy Company’s factory commenced receiving milk for the season yesterday. Mr. Hughie Flutey was yesterday admitted to the Greytown Hospital, suffering from pneumonia. Mrs. R. McDougall is a visitor to Wellington. Mr. and Mrs. A. Warren have returned from Australia. Mrs. P. Duncan, who was one of the Native party to visit Honolulu recently, is a visitor to the district. A Presbyterian service, conducted by the Bev. W. J. Durrad, was held in the Burnside Church on £hinday. The Tuhitarata Dairy Company (Lower Valley) commenced operations last week. The annual meeting was held on Monday. Mrs Geo. Thorner underwent two operations at the Grey town Hospital. At present her condition is satisfactory. Mr. J. McMaster, who has been an inmate of a private hospital in Featherston, has returned home. A contingent of natives from this district will attend a district conference to be held at Papawai on Saturday and Sunday under the auspices of the church of the Latter Day Saints. The local school will close for the quarterly vacation on Friday. It is reported that steps are to be taken by the Forestry Department to acquire the interests of the owner in an area of white pine bush in this district for scenic purposes. It is considered authoritatively that the trees on this block are estimated to be worth a considerable sum for commercial purposes.
