DISGUSTING STATE OF AFFAIRS REVEALED. DISCLOSURES AT COUNCIL MEETING. A deplorable state of affairs in the women’s rest room in the Mxstertoa Municipal Building was disclosed in a report submitted at last night’s meeting of the Masterton Borough CounciL The report, which was made by the Sanitary Inspector, Mr. T. A. Russell, said he had inspected the room on several occasions and found a deplorable state. It appeared, as if certain depraved individuals were trying to be ns filthy as possible, not only in the convenience apartment, but in the rest room itself. He therefore recommend* ed that the present mattress be removed from the couch and a new mat. tress covered with an inpervioua washable material provided, and as a deterrent to the persons causing the trouble a penny in the slot lock be placed on the door of the rest room. The inspector Mid he regretted that the latter recommendation -was necessary, hut in the interest of the great majority of clean-minded, docent f’*** it was unfortunately required. I Councillor A. Hippon moved that room be closed. It was apparent, nW said, that only the constant attention, of a custodian would keep it in order. ’ Councillor C. H. Anderson seconded the motion. Councillor H. M. Peacock considered that the recommendations of the sanitary inspector should be adopted and if the room was then still abused possibly the only thing to do would be to close it. Councillors T. Jenkins, 11. J. O’Leary and W. L. Free supported the view that the room should bo kept open and the amendment, upon being put to the council, was lost and the report of the sanitary inspector adopted.
