LONDON PRODUCE PRICES.

The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram, dated August 17, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London:— Tallow.—Fair demand at auction, but market now quiet. Present quotations for spot are: Mtttton, fine 41/- to 41/6 per cwt., fair to good 38/- to 40/-, dark to dull 36/- to 37/-; beef, sweet and/or mixed 39/6 to 43/-, fair to good 37/- to 39/6, dark to dull 35/6 to 36/6; mixed, fair to good 37/- to 39/-, dark to dull 35/6 to 36/6; gut ,etc., 34/- to 86/6. Apples.—Market flat, with scarcely any demand this week. Less than half of Port Nicholson consignment sold yet. Large quantities of English apples and other English and Continental fruits now arriving and selling cheaply. Current prices for New Zealand are: Sturmer Pippin, 19/- to 16/- per case; Rokewood and Dougherty, 12/- to 18/-. Indications point to lower prices later on. Eggs.—Market quiet but steady. Present quotations are: English, 15/- to 22/- per long 100 (120); Dutch, Danish and French, 12/- to 17/6; Belgian, 14/to 14/6; Polish, 9/9 to 11/3. Hemp.—Manila market easier owing to adjustments. Statistics show large increase in stocks. Closing values for 4 ‘J” grade September-November shipments, £3B 10/-. Sisal: Market quiet. Value No. 1 good marks £4l 10/-; No. 2 £4O to £4O 5/-. New Zealand: Continued inquiry for Highpoints, but shippers unable to offer on account of lack of supplies. Buyers show no disposition to operate in lower grades at prices asked. Comparative closing values/are: Highpoints, £35; fair, £32; common, £3O 10/-; tow, second grade, £2-2, third grade £l7 15/-.
