CHARGES DROPPED.
RECENT ESCAPE FROM CUSTODY. AUCKLAND, August 8. William Ingram, the prisoner who escaped from a train at the Auckland Station a fortnight ago, and was recaptured last Saturday, was charged in the Police Court with escaping from custody and on two counts of false pretences. In the Supreme Court last Monday, prisoner . to three years’ hard labour on two other charges of false pretences and declared an habitual criminal. In view of this the police withdrew the charges of escaping. The Magistrate (Mr. Hunt) convicted and discharged prisoner on the other two charges, saying he had a long time to so (before he would be at liberty agaifC Prisoner: ”Thank you, sir.”—(P.A.)
