MORPETH WINS.

VICTORIAN AMATEUR GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP. HANCOCK DEFEATED IN FINAL. -A POPULAR VICTORY. United Press Association. —By Eleetrit Telegraph—Copyright. (Received Thursday, 9.50 p.m.) MELBOURNE, August 8. Sloan Morpeth, of New Zealand, two up and one to play, defeated A, Hancock, of Victoria, and won the Victorian amateur golf championship from the most classic field which has yet contested the event. The New Zealand victory is popular and well merited, due to consistently good golf. Morpeth is elated with his win, though he is decidedly modest as to his own capabilities as a golfer. His driving was a feature of a thrilling game and richly repaid the exceptionally large gallery who followed the match, which was played in boisterous weather.—(Australian Press Association.) KIRK-WINDEYER CUP. WELLINGTON, August 8. The New Zealand Golf Association has received a cable stating that with regard to the Kirk-Windeyer Cup match, Victoria will play New South Wales on Saturday to decide who shall play New Zealand for the cup. New Zealand will . play on Monday and Tuesday. Our players in Australia have agreed to play both the foursomes and the singles over 36 holes instead of 18 holes, as in previous years, so that the final match between New Zealand and the winner of the Victoria v. New South Wales match will occupy two days. The foursomes will be played on Monday and the singles on Tuesday.— (P.A.)
