The many friends in Masterton of Air. H. J. Egan, formerly of tdris town, will regret to learn that he is critically ill in Wanganui. Mt. H. A. R. Dunderdalc, secretary of the Wairarapa Progress League, left for Wellington yesterday. He experts to return at the end of the week.
Advice has been receives! that the Rev. A. F. Sutherland, 8.A., hag accepted the call to St. Paul*s Church, Pahiatua. It ia proposed that the faduetios service shall take place on Thursday evening, July 15.
Advices from England state that Mr. Garthowen Williams, eldest son of Mr. ami Mrs Hugh Williams, of Tins downe, Masterton, has successfully completed his third year medical course ; ot dumb ridge University, and han taken hie B.A. degree. His younger brother, Mr. Mervyn Williams, passel his first year’s medical examination.
At the Supreme Count, Wellington, on Tuesday last, before HU Honour Mr. Justice McGregor, on the motion of Mr. H. F. Johnston, of Wellington, Mr. H. M. A. Major B.A. (Cantab), was admitted as a solicitor. Mr. Major, who is the eldest son of tbs Bev. Dr. Major, Principal of Bipou Hall, Oxford, was educated at Marlborough College and Jesus College, Cambridge, where he took hie B.A. He came out to New Zeeland in 1926 sad has since been in the office of his unde, Mr. A. C. Major, of Masterton.
A quiet wedding wee celebrated nt St. Mark’s Church, Csrtertxqk on Tuesday, the contracting parties being Miss Eva May, elder daughter of Mr. and Mrs Robt. Workman, old and wellknown residents of Greytown. and Mr. Wilfred J. Ticehurst, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. W. Ticehuret, well-known Matarawa settlers The Bev. W. Baine was the officiating clergyman. Mr. and Mrs Workman entertained a large circle of relatives and friends, when the usual toasts were honoured Bongs end recitations were rendered and dancing indulged in. The aewly-wed-Jed pair were the recipients of a large number of handsome and useful presents.
The funeral yesterday afternoon of the late Mr. De vid Ogilvy was one of the largest seen in Masterton for some time, mourners attending from all ports of the district. The esteem is which the deceased was held was shown by the large number of very beautiful wreaths which covered the caskci. The Rev John Davie conductid a service nt the residence and also cne nt the graveside. The pall bearers were four members of the staff of Qgilvv ami Sons and two dose friends, Messrs H. P. Hugo and W. ft Jago. Representatives of the Mastecjon A. and P. Society, Hotel Midland L4d. and the Wairarapa Caledonian Society (of which Mr. Ogilvy was an ea-direc-tor) attended.
