ARMS LIMITATION.
HOPES OF EARLY AGREEMENT. SETTLEMENT OF DISPUTES. DOMINIONS BEING CONSULTED. (Received This Day, 0.50 a.m.) LONDON, July 2. The following reference to disarmament was made in the King’* Speech at the opening of Parliament:—“Conversations have commenced with the Ambassador of the United States in regard to naval disarmament in consequence of which my Government earnestly hopes to ensure, in co-operation with the Governments of the Dominions and the Government of India and the Governments of foreign Powers, an early reduction in armaments throughout the world. My Government consider the time has come to submit to judicial settlement International disputes wherein the parties are in conflict in regard to their respective rights and for this purpose they are now consulting the Governments of the Dominions and the Government of India in regard to signing the optional clause embodied in the statutes of the Permanent Court of International Justice. “My Government is examining the conditions whereunder diplomatic relations with the Government of the Union of Soviet Republics may be resumed and is communicating with the Governments of the Dominions and the Government of India thereanent.—'(Australian Press Association.—United Service.)
