STATEMENT BY DR. TELFORD CHAU .F.NGED. (By Telegraph.—“ The Age” Special.) WELLINGTON, July 2. Parliament quickly heard through the Member for Buller the protest of Westport people against a statement alleged'to have been made by Dr. Telford, Public Health Officer at Christchurch, that the people of Westport were condoling with each other and considering getting in relief instead of getting to work. “It is a most serious statement, and utterly untrue,” declared Mr. H. E. Holland. He asked the Minister of Public Health if he had seen this allegation and what steps he proposed to take to prevent any of his officers from making utterly false statements of that kind in future. The Hon. A. J. Stalworthy replied that he would take steps to investigate the truth or otherwise of the published statement, “and subsequently take such steps as are necessary to adjust the poeition. ” MASTERTON FUND.
