Messrs N. D. Cunningham Ltd advise that there will be no transmission from station 2ZQ, Masterton, this evening.

At a meeting of the Managers of the Knox Church last night Mr. D. Edwards, of Edith Street, was appointed caretaker.

For the three months ending June 30, 1929, the deposits at the Masterton Post Office Savings Bank were £72,973 and the withdrawals £71,456.

On June 26, in the Supreme Court at Wellington, Mr. Justice Macgregor, granted probate of the will of Edward Carew Smyth, late of Masterton, retired farmer, to the Public- Trustee.

The fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Masterton Lodge of Oddfellows was held on Monday evening, N.G. Bro. B. Beddon presiding over a good attendance of members. Two members were declared on the sick fund, and one declared off. Three friends were initiated into the Order as benefit members, and one as an honorary member. It was decided to make a donation of £2 2s towards the Mayor's Earthquake Relief Fund.

Some forty or fiftvjesidents of the Bidcford district and other friends of Mr. and Mrs J. W. A. Falloon assembled as a surprise party at the residence of Mr. and Mrs Falloon last evening. A very enjoyable time was spent, dancing being kept up to a fairly late hour. A congratulatory speech, in the- course of which he extended a welcome to Mrs. Falloon, was made by Mr. J. W. Carswell, the oldest resident of the Bideford district, and Mr. Falloon suitably replied.

The Masterton A. and P. Association will be represented at the annual conference of the North Island A. and P. Associations, at Auckland next week, by Messrs. W. F. McLaren (president), J. M. Janies and W. H. Buick, members of the General Committee; and R. H. Williariis, secretary. All four will be leaving for Auckland at the beginning of next week. The main conference opens on Wednesday next, but Mr. Williaiivs is to attend a conference of secretaries on Tuesday. The annual Wellington Diocesan Synod opened in Wellington yesterday afternoon, at 3 o'clock, when Bishop Sprott delivered his presidential address. The Rev. W. Bullock, accompanied by Mw Bullock, left Masterton on Monday to attend the session of synod. The Rev. E. McLevie has year been granted leave of absence by the Bishop, while the lay representatives, who will represent the of Matterton, axe Mr. Sidney / Smith and Mr. H. A. R. Dunderdale.

At a meeting of the Auckland District Committee yesterday it was agreed to alter the disqualification of J. H. Mcßae, A. J. Gilmer and W. Rennie, jockeys, for the balance of their term to a suspension of riding in races and it was also agreed to recommend the Racing Conference to act likewise m regard to C. N. Oarmont, a jockey. The disqualification imposed on the four jockeys named, dated from June 29, 11128, and was for a period of two years. Applications by A. Driscoll and H. J. linker for permission to work in training stables were declined.—(P.A.) In connection with the order made recently by an Auckland Magistrate, withdrawing all civil rights fot ten Vears from A. Miller and A. M. Richards, two students for the Presbyterian Ministry, the Public Questions Committee of the Presbyterian Assembly has passed a series of resolutions objecting to the deprivation of civil rights for ten years as being unduly severe, and asking that proceedings to imprison Miller and Richards for nonpayment of fines be stayed pending an interview with the Minister and that the prescription of alternative service by Governor-in-Council be gazetted and published.
