CHARGE OF CONSPIRACY DISMISSED. PRELIMINARY HEARING. ACCUSED DISCHARGED. NEW ORLEANS, April 9. The conspiracy charges against the I’m Alone’s crew were dismissed at a preliminary hearing befor the United States Commissioner, Mr. Reginald Carter, jun., following a motion for dismissal made by the United States District Attorney, Mr. Talbot, who contended, nevertheless, that the cutter’s action in sinking the I’m Alone was justified. He said that, he asked for a dismissal of the charge upon the authority of the Attorney-General. “Therefore, this will not prejudice the Government’s status in the sinking.” Mr. Talbot declared that any further indemnity action would have have t» be handled between tjhe United States and Canadian Governments. Captain Randall and the crew, who were present, were visibly relieved. Randall said: “Thank God, I’ll go to sea again some day, but it won’t be e» a rum-runner. I am through with that."
