Masterton.—Mr. R. Brown reported at :9 a.m. yesterday:—Barograph, 30.40. Shade temperature, maximum 76.2; minimum 39.2; terrestrial, 37.4; bright sunshine, 10 hours. ’ The Government Meteorologist (Dr. E. Kidson) reported at 4 p.m. yesterday:—General situation: An intense anti-cyclone is still centred near the Chatham Islands, a deep depression is crossing the Southern Tasman Sea. Forecast: Winds: Northery winds freshening and reaching gale force at places. Seas (New Zealand waters): Seas smooth to moderate, but rising generally in New Zealand waters. Weather: Some scattered rain north of Auckland, otherwise fair to fine, at first, but conditions becoming gradually unsettled with general rain during the next two days; warm temperatures; southerly gale likely after from two to three days.
