THE RUGBY GAME.

RED STAB CLUB. The annual report of the Red. Star Football Club for the 1928 season states that the committee wish to congratulate the club on its successful season. Teams were entered in live grades for championships. Though none of the teams were successful in winning the highest honours, it was gratifying to sec much improved play among the younger players. At the beginning of the season a team was entered for the seven-a-side tournament at Nireaha, and put up a good performance, being the runners-up. During the season, representative honours were, gained by M. Willoughby (Wairarapa, North Island and New Zealand), and Seymour Willoughby (North Island and New Zealand). The following also gained Wairarapa junior honours:—M. Devine and R. Hume; North Wairarapa, M. and R. Devine, F. Clark and W. Clark. The club is very fortunate in having such capable coaches, and the club’s best thanks are due to them for their efforts in improving the play, and for their time freely given. The club’s thanks are also due to the delegates to the Wairarapa Rugby Union, who did all in their power to forward the interests of the club; to Mr. Bert Wilson and Mr. Ted Freeman, who placed their cars at the disposal of the club; to the Press, for the space so freely given for our club news and football generally, and to supporters for the assistance given, during the past season. The club’s finances were in a healthy position. The committee urges all members of the club to make a point of paying their subscriptions and by doing so help to strengthen the financial position of the club. All members and intending members are asked to put their interest in the club, and thus make the coming season more successful than the one just passed. The annual meeting will be held tonight, at 7.30, in the Trades Hall, Queen Street North.

MASTERTON CLUB’S ANNUAL REPORT "Although the club was unable to field a senior team this year, it wan

represented by five lower grade teams and these gave a very good account of themselves," states the annual report of the Masterton Football Club. "The junior fifteen, under the capable coaching of Messrs D. K. Logan and G. Rushton, showed a big improvement towards the end of the season and eventuaUy finished third in the championship. The third grade team was the only team playing under tho club’s banner to secure championship honours. This team stuck to its training all through the season and Mr M. Fly coach of the team, deserves special praise for the way in whieh he handled the team during the season. The fourth grade team was a young and light combination, but Mr F. Groube, by taking a great interest in them, soon moulded them into shape and this team finished well up in the championship. The fifth grade team, coached by Mr D. Pauling, was up against it at the start of the season, but by sticking together were able to defeat towards the latter end of the season some of their earlier conquerors. The sixth grade, coached by Mr J. Whiteman, gave a good account of themselves and, if some of the higher urade players paid as much attention to training as this grade, they would soon find themselves at the top of the tree. the season the following club players gained representative honours:—Junior representatives: A. Fuller, N. Nicholls, H. Sylvester. On the past season’s operations the committee is able to show a credit balance. The use of the Park Oval was obtained at night for training and the club’s thanks are due to Mr. G. H. Perry for donating the cost of same. The committee wish to thank all office-besrers, coaches and supporters who have assisted the club during the past season, and hope for a continuance of the same support during the approaching season."
