COST OF STRIKES
LARGE LOSSES OF REVENUE DISCLOSED. SOME ILLUMINATING FIGURES. AUSTRALIAN HOLD-UPS. SYDNEY, March 17. The Premier, Mr. Bavin, who is State Treasurer, estimates that the timber and are causing a loss in State revenue of £23,000 per week in rail freights, harbour dues and other ways. He expects that it will cause a loss of about £400,000 at the end of the financial year. He has written to the coal owners requesting them to reopen the mines. It is estimated that the timber workers are losing £lOO,OOO per week in wages, in addition to £ll,OOO weekly in strike pay.—(Australian Press Association.)
