CRIME MYSTERY.

SCOTLAND YARD SEEKING YOUNG MAN. WOMAN’S BODY FOUND. (Received Sunday, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, March 16. Scotland Yard is seeking a young man, of whom it has a description but no name, in connection with the discovery of the decapitated body of Mrs Winifred East, aged 28, the wife of an auctioneer-valuer living at Wanstead. The body was found on the railway between Eltham and Kidbrooke. Mrs. East was seen to enter a train at Barnhurst, a man following her. Screams were heard in a compartment. The man left the train at Kidbrooke and conversed with a porter.—-(Australian Press Association.) BRUTALLY MURDERED. (Received Sunday, 11.49 p.m.) LONDON, March 17. The police believe that Mrs. East’s empty purse was found on the line. A post-mortem examination revealed that she was brutally murdered. A blow on the back of the head was inflicted by a heavy weapon. She then apparently fell head foremost from the train on to a live rail and was electrocuted.— (Australian Press Association.) EVIDENCE AT INQUEST. (Received Sunday, 11 p.m.) f LONDON, March 17. At the inquest, the husband of Mrs East said that they were happily married for three years. There were no children. He did not know that his wife was an expectant mother. His wife always carried a Post Office Savings Bank book, which was found in the train and led to her identification. —(Australian Press Association.)
