SOUTHDOWN SALE.
PALMERSTON N., January 23. Messrs Dalgety and Company report: A Southdown ksale on account of Mr C. E. Vile was held at the Palmerston North Showgrounds to-day. The sheep came forward in excellent condition and -were typical of the breed. There were buyers present from Auckland to the Bluff and from the first lot ofjpred spirited competi lion was forthcoming- until the end of the sale. A number of sheep were purchased for Australia. Stud rams made from 35 to 192 guineas; selected stud from 28 to 53 guineas; flock ewes (shearlings), from 9} to- 35 guineas; 2-shear from 7 to 20 guineas; mixed ages from 34 to 124 guineas. A feature of the sale was the strong and sustained demand for ram lambs. Although many of these were by imported sires, it was extraordinary that the demand keen. Selected ram lambs made up to 32 guineas and nothing was sold under 9 guineas. Ewe lambs were keenly bid for, and made as high a® 10 -guineas. Flock rams brought from 111 to 14 guineas: flock ram lambs (pens of five) as high as 7 guineas.
