DAMAGE BY FIRE.
BUILDING IN WELLINGTON SUFFERS BRIGADE’S HARD FIGHT WELLINGTON, January 23. Extensive damage wa-s done by a fire which broke out shortly after midnight lust night in Kodak House, a six-storey brick structure in the centre of a block of buildings in the heart of the warehouse portion of the city, bounded on the southern, side by Williston. Street and to the north of Hunter Street. With much inflammable material stored on the upper floors, occupied by Kodak (Australasia) Pty, Ltd., the flames quickly spread, and, although the Fire Brigade was soon on the scene, about two hour® elapsed before the fire was under control. The outbreak was confined to the sixth floor, which was completely gutted. Stock on tho fourth and fifth floors, also- occupied by the Kodak Co and in the rooms used by various warehouse firms on the other floors of the building, suffered considerable damage from water.
Tie building is owned by Kodak (Australasia) Tty., Ltd., and is insured for £20,500 with the AJP.A. Union Assurance Society, with which the company also had policies for £2600 on {he rents, £2o.j|)o on the stock and £2OOO on the furnishings and fittings. The stock is also insured for £5OOO in the Royal Exchange Assurance Office. —(HA.)
