I Auctioneers’ licenses were granted to Messrs J. Kerslake, R. S. Gcrrand 11. nd Wright, iStephenson and Co.. Ltd. The Mayor pointed out that an , alteration of the law now operated |:.nd a result was that the council’s lestimatcd receipts were down by £l2O. It was decided to give to tlw Lansklown School, in response to an en- • iquiry, the remnant of croquet playing 'material in the possession of the i council. t : The Ma Alert on Amateur Athletic jClub was granted the use of the Park j Oval rent f ee, on February 19 for an electric light sports meeting. The lessee of the Park Tea Kiosk was granted permission to sub-let a soft drink stall, on the occasion of. the band gala day, on certain condilicns. The tender of Messrs Rigg Bros, for papering and repairs to the abattoir cottage was accepted. The Ges Manager was instructed to obtain a new lubricator at a cost of £lO, and a new half ton truck is to be purchased for the use of the gasworks. Air Herbert was appointed temporarily to take aver the position of accountant in the Gas Department, in addition of his present duties, and his salary increased by £5O per annum. The Atlantic Oil Union Company was granted permission to establish an oil depot in Rcnall Street, on certain conditions. In reply to a request from the Drivers’ Union secretary the council decided to place one of its lorries at the union’s disposal on the occasion of the annual picnic, on the same conditions as last year. A petition was received by W. G. Laing and 22 others, residents of Opaki, Matahiwi a:nd Upper Plain, asking the Council to re-consider its decision to close Park Avenue and Bruce Street as a stock route and praying that the said Bruce Street and Park Avenue be again opened as stock routes. In reply the Council regretted that it could not see its way clear to alter the existing stock routes.
