CONTRIBUTION FROM BOROUGH COUNCIL
DEMAND FOR AN INCREASE DECLINED i Al last night’s meeting of the Musiterton Borough Council, the Master ton County Council forwarded a copy cf the result of the traffic tallies taken at the Ruamahamga River Bridge at different periods of the year, and informed the Council that the Masteri ton County Council had definitely de tided, the council’s contribution to the I cost of a new structure tc be 30 per cent. In reply the borough council i decided to draw the attention of the • county council to previous letters and ■ tho borough’s replies thereto, and to state that tho borough council raw 1 no reason why that agreement should ! be departed from. The previous ktters were read to the council. Tho one dated May 14, 1927, stated, that the estimated cost of' the Rua maha nga River Bridge wa» £12.417, of wl:i<4i it was naked that the Masterton Borough Council should contribute ten per cent., less the Main Highways subsidy. In a reply on May 18, the borough council painted , out that no decision was possible on s account of the sparse information . supplied and asked what the subsidy i would be. On Juno 9, 1927, the Masrtertor. County Council wrote giving fuller particulars, stating that of the cost of £12,417, the Main Highways subsidy would be. £6208. It was intimated that the Costiepoint County Council also had been asked to contribute ten per cent. Regarding the ten per cent, contribution asked for i from, the borough, the letter stated i that county councillors considered f that that proportion was quite reasoni nble. In reply to this the borough J council accepted liability for ten per - cent., lees the Government subsidy.
