(Received Sunday, 5.5 p.m.) PORT ELIZABETH, Aug. 11. Although they defeated Eastern Province by two converted and two unconverted tries to one unconverted try, the All Blacks gave a disappointing display before a crowd ** of ten thousand at Port Elizabeth to-day. The New Zealand team was:— Full-back.—Lindsay. Three-quarters.— Rushbrook, Lucas, Robilliard. Five-eighths.—Johnson, Lilburne. Half-back.—Strang. Wing-forward.—Scrimshaw. Forwards. — Hadley, Burrows, M. Brownlie, Ward, — eWilliams, Snow, Hazlett. At first the Eastern forwards held the visitors well, but finally Strang broke away and passed to Lilburne, who cut in, Burrows taking his pass to score. The kick missed. New Zealand 3 Eastern Province .. .... 6 About the middle of the spell, three fine line kicks put the home side on attack, the ball going out to Dower, who scored a brilliant try at the corner. Eastern Province ...... 3 New Zealand 3 A period of ragged play followed, half-time coming with the scores even. In the second half the visitors held the ascendancy. Strang passed from the scrum to Lilburne, who dummied and sent on to Johnson, who passed infield, Strang again taking the leather to score between the posts. Strang’s kick hit the upright. New Zealand 6 Eastern Province 3 Strang again broke away shortly afterwards, passing to Burrows, who scored. Lindsay converted. New Zealand 11 Eastern Province 3 After both Johnson and Lucas had dropped the ball in Eastern territory, Rushbrook snapped it up to score at the corner. Lilburne converted with a great kick. THE THIRD TEST. Stanley Osler, the South African crack fly half, will not play in the third test because of an injured thigh muscle. The New Zealand players to train for the test will be chosen on Monday, and the Springbok team will be definitely picked on Wednesday. N.Z. CASUALTIES. After much electrical massage treatment, Hadley’s shoulder has made a quick recovery, and the Aucklander was able to play to-day (Saturday). McGregor and Alley are both suffering from influenza. Stewart had a leg injured in last Wednesday’s match, and he is receiving massage treatment, as also are Sheen and C. Brownlie. (There will be no mid-week match for the All Blacks this week on account of the Test next Saturday at Port Elizabeth.)
