HOSPITAL LEVIES.

CRITICISM IN CHRISTCHURCH CHRISTCHURCH, June 6.

The criticism against the increased hospital levy is still growing. The New Brighton Borough Council last night received an invitation from the Riccarton Borough Council to support the protest which the latter body made at its last meeting against the increase in the levy. The Mayor (Mr. A. W. Owles) said that New Brighton’s increase this year was about 50 per cent. 4 ‘The present generation should not have to pay for buildings that wid last for sixty years,” said Councillor R. Stokes, in deploring the fact that the Hospital Board paid for all new buildings out of its general fund instead of raising loans. The council referred the matter to its Finance Committee. —(P.A.).
