FOUND DEAD IN BED.

MR. AUGUSTUS lORNS. Mr. Augustus lorns, who was cnl« ployed on Mr. Simon Dalgleish's property at Longbush, was found dead in his bed yesterday morning by Mr. Dalgl/ish. The deceased was last seen, alive at mid-day on Saturday. He had evidently betm dead about three days. He is stated to have suffered from heart trouble as a result of war service. The late Mr. lorns, who was a son of Mr. Joseph lorns, of Masterton, wa« born in this town 46 years ago. He was single and was very popular among those w-ith whom he came in contact, Mrs. Robert Buckeridge, of Masterton, is a sister, and Messrs. Arthur, Bennett and Reginald lorns (Masterton), and Mr. Joseph lorns (New Plymouth) are brothers. General sympathy will be extended to the relatives in their sad bereavement. INQUEST HELD DEATH FROM NATURAL CAUSES An inquest concerning Mr. lorns’s death was held yesterday afternoon at Longbush, before the District Coroner, Mr. E. G. Eton. Adam Waugh, shepherd employed by Simon Dalgleish, Longbush, stated that he last saw the deceased at mid-day on Saturday. The deceased was then in the best of health. Mr lorns left witness to proceed to a neighbour’s place about a mile away. At breakfast timei the next day he had not returned, but as it was Sunday witness did not taka any notice of his non-arrival. When he did not appear on Monday witness concluded that he had gone to the races. The deceased had been boarding with witness for the last month and was often away at night. At about 8.15 o’clock yesterday morning Mr lorns 's employer, Mr Dalgleish, asked witness where tho deceased was. Upon investigating Mr lorns was found dead in his bed.

Evidence was given by Roger Alfred! Renail, of Longbush, that he last saw the deceased alive at about 11 p.m. on Saturday, when he left after spending the afternoon and evening with Mm,. The deceased was then in good health and spirits. Simon Dalgleish gave evidence in accordance with the statements of th® precious witnesses,. The deceased had been employed by' witness for tho past four years, and he had never complained about his health. Mr lorns was a returned soldier and witness knew years ago that the deceased was suffering from the effects of war service. Witness said he was certain that the deceased would not be a man who would contemplate taking his own life and he had no financial worries. Thomas Rowland Eaton, sheep' farmer of Longbush, gave corroborative evidence. Evidence was also given by Allani Clyfford Gawith, sheepfarmer, of Longbush, who had known the deceased for the past twenty-seven years, that he returned from the war suffering from the effects of being gassed. When witness heard of deceased’s deetE he concluded that ho had died from the effects of war service. The Coroner returned a verdict that death was dne to natural causes. The funeral will leave Mr. G. Hyde’s Mortuary Chapel, Church Street, Masterton, this morning for the Masterton Cemetery. Returned soldiers and members of the Druids' Lodge are asked to( attend.
