THE Wairarapa Age MORNING DAILY. THURSDAY, MAY 31, 1928. THE TRUST ELECTION

A final reminder is given that the election of three members to the board of the Trust Lands Trust takes place to-day, and that some 4500 persons in the Masterton Small Farm Area are entitled to vote. All accessary ‘parti ‘ culars are advertised. Of the four candidates standing, three—Messrs D. Csselkerg, W. H. Jackson and R. Krahagen—are well known us mem ; bers of the Trust. The remaining candidate, Mr P. A. Macomish has not served on the Trust, but has done useful work in the local administration of primary education. For some time past, few of those qualified to do so have troubled to record their votes in the election of Trustees. This is a state of affairs which is not creditable to the town and does not tend to ensure that the best possible use is made of the revenues from the Trust ’endowments. A livelier public interest in the affairs they handle will help and encourage the Trustees, and it is surely not asking too much of electors to urge that they should to-day spare the few minutes that are needed to enable them to step into the Town Hall or one of the other polling place? advertised and cast a vote. A gooc. muster of electors at to-day’s poll would be a promising step in the direction of enabling the Trustees to get effectively into touch with public opinion in administering an endowment for whiefi the people of this district have good reason to be grateful to the pioneers. BOY SCOUT MOVEMENT The Boy Scout movement no doubt is considerably short of having attained its maximum possible development in Masterton, and the campaign about to be undertaken with a view to extending its scope and making it more widely popular locally is entitled to sympathetic attention and support. The organisation and aims of this excellent movement are based at once upon high ideals and upon a thoroughly sympathetic understanding of boy nature. That the extension of the movement, here and elsewhere, is desirable goes without saying. Everything attempted in this direction needs, however, to be undertaken with due care and forethought. The vital point is the selection, of young men who are in every way qualified to centre l and tram groups of boys. Often enough, I* such men are not very easily obtained L or induced to undertake the work, al- i though it is work that is splendidly worth while. It would no doubt facil-t itste the extension of the Scout move- f ment in Masterton if additional creeps " were established, each with its headquarters located at a point conveniently accessible to the boys of a pirtieular section of the town.
