Shade tmeperature: Maximum, 74.8; minimum, 42.0; terrestrial, 32.2; rainfall, 4 points; bright sunshine, lOhrs. 12mins. Solway.—Mr H. M. Boddlngton reported yesterday that 5 points of rain were registered at Solway for the 24 hours up rill 9 o’clock. Th Government Meteorologist (Dr. E. Kidson) reported at 4 p.m. yeseterday: Evening forecast: An anti-cyelone is covering New Zealand with its centre off the East Coast of Otago; a rather intense depression is situated, over Tasmania The forecast is for south-east-erly winds, fresh to strong south of East Cape and in Cook Strait, but decreasing and later backing to east and north; seas rough on the E§,st Coast between East Cape and Akaroa and in the Cook Strait region, elsewhere moderate in New Zealand waters; strong easterly to northerly winds and rough seas in the central and southern Tasman Sea; weather cold and changeable with some scattered showers on the East Coast north of Akaroa, but improving soon elsewhere; chiefly fair temperatures, becoming milder soon; a renewal of unsettled weather probably about Thursday.
