Les Murray, who for six years held the title of lightweight champion l of New Zealand, has announced his retirement from the ring, a‘ Dunedin Pnjss Association message states. He forfeited his title to Charlie Purdy by his absence from, the Dominion over the prescribed time and during his sojourn in the United States made an unsuccessful bid for the world’s title. He put up several good fights, however, and won. tho high esteem of the American public. The Chicago “Referee” regards him as -the ninth best lightweight in the world to-day.
