FLANDERS POPPIES.

MASTERTON’S ANNUAL EFFORT. SUM OF £122 REALISED. The annual sale of Flanders poppies, the emblem of remembrance of those who fell in the Great War, took place in Masterton yesterday, when a strong band of ladies worked from early morning till after the closing of the shops vending the poppies. These were readily sold, there being scarcely anyone to be seen without one. The amount realised in Masterton alone was £122 17s 3d, and this will be supplemented by the returns from Lansdowne and from several residential street sellers. In addition poppies were on sale at townships o» the East Coast Road, and at several of the big stations, so it is anticipated that last year’s total of £l4B will be reached.

A few poppies were not disposed of yesterday, and any citizen desirous of purchasing one for Anzac Day may obtain it at the offices of the R.S.A., Perry Street. THE DUNEDIN SALE. DUNEDIN, April 22. The annual Popny Day appeal held in Dunedin to-day resulted in over £475 being raised. This sum does not include returns from suburban and country centres. It is also anticipated that the total will be considerably augmented by returns in the ? city yet to be handed in. The money will be used to provide employment and relief for distressed or workless ex-Serviee men. The effect of unemployment and the general tightness of the money market is reflected in the sum realised, which shows some "reduction on last year’s total.—(P.A.)
