CRICKET RECORD.
PONSFORD’S LATEST FEAT. MELBOURNE, April 20. Ponsford has created another cricket record by being the first Australian to make 2000 runs in a season. His total was 2008. The cricket premiership ended with St. Kilda at the head of the list for the fourth year in succession.—(P.A.) (Ponsford is perhaps the most prolific scorer known to cricket, and this is but another record to his credit. Ho has now scored well over 5000 runs in first-class cricket, and in Sheffield Shield cricket his record is phenomenal. Up to the end of this season ho had batted 29 times in Shield matches, for twice not out. His total number of runs was 2451, his highest score was 352, and his average 90.7. Ponsford holds tho world’s record score of 449 for first-class cricket. This season he has scored six centuries in first-class cricket, ten in all games, and four scores of over 200. Ponsford is 26 years of age.)
